Super Bowl 50 Private Jet Charter FAQs

This weekend is the biggest sporting event of the year – and is celebrating a special milestone in itself. Super Bowl 50, taking place in San Jose, California will determine this year’s NFL champion in a tough game between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers.

What you need to know before flying into the Super Bowl

Each year, the Super Bowl attracts hundreds of private jet flights to its location, becoming one of the busiest events for private jet charter. Last year’s Super Bowl saw 1000-1200 additional private flights in the area and it’s predicted that up to 2500 additional non-commercial aircraft movements will be making their way to the game this year.

If you’re flying to the big game by private jet, there are a few things to keep in mind prior to your arrival. Due to the large influx of private planes, there will be a big restriction in slot times, as well as parking slots at each of the local airports. Normal ramp capacity is approximately five large jets, ten midsize jets, and ten small jets maximum – and with 500-700 aircraft wanting to visit during this weekend, there will inevitably be some aircraft that can’t be accommodated.

Flying into Super Bowl 50San Jose Airport (the closest airport to the Super Bowl) is the most popular choice for those flying into the game, but the ramp space there is extremely limited. Airport authority may close down some taxiways and the second runway at San Jose to cope with the demand during the weekend. Additionally, the airport may only accept a few arrivals and those who arrive later will have to fly further away to another airport. This could possibly lead you to being an hour to an hour and a half drive away from the stadium.

Other nearby airport choices include (but are not limited to):

In preparation for your private jet charter flight to the Super Bowl this weekend, it’s important to remember that things may not run at the airport like you’re used to. Planes will unlikely be parked right outside the FBO doors, and you may need to be shuttled to your park plane.

At PrivateFly, we’re advising that private jet charter passengers travel early, be willing to accommodate to changes, and practice patience. While the airports will be seeing a continual increase in flights starting this Friday, the biggest day for air traffic will be immediately following the game, as well as the following Monday.
